“Technology makes it possible to create spaces in a parallel reality, where we interact in a way that our brain makes the experience real: videoconferencing, multiple user online games, as well as chatting with friends and other people whom we share some affinity; nonetheless, worlds that only exist online have the potential of creating portals that can be used by users with completely different profiles.

This project generates a neutral ground, through virtual intervention in different “real” spaces with different characteristics, communities interacting anonymously in a three-dimensional world existing online, as well as specific points in Mexico City: the World Trade Center, a prison, and a museum.”

Floating Gardens is an online gathering, located in various nodes within the phisical territory. It's an interactive 3D space which creates a neutral ground, which people can explore through navigation in a zero gravity environment and chat anonymously with other users realtime. The Garden is rendered stereoscopically to augment the three dimensional sensation of its inhabitants. Floating Gardens is then a space technology that arises the possibility for encounter and exchange, providing fertile soil for surface democratization. The idea is to place the nodes in such locations in which stratified structural differences will produce emergent phenomena in communication. So far: a jailhouse, the World Trade Center [Mexico City] and Museo de Arte Alameda have hosted the Floating Gardens simultaneously at Transitio MX02.

The implementation consists of an application [Linux or Windows] including the 3D world and chat client: a server should be set. The application was built with the Blender Game Engine. The chat client application uses the BZoo API. You also need Python 2.5

La tecnología hace posible la creación de espacios en una realidad paralela, donde interactuamos de tal forma que nuestro cerebro vuelve real la experiencia: videoconferencias, juegos para múltiples usuarios on line y hablar con nuestros amigos u otras tantas personas con las que compartimos alguna afinidad, sin embargo, estos mundos que solo existen en línea tienen la potencialidad de crear portales que pueden ser utilizados por usuarios con perfiles totalmente distintos.
Este proyecto genera un terreno neutro, a través de una intervención virtual en distintos espacios reales con cualidades distintas, comunidades interactuando anónimamente en un mundo tridimensional existente en línea also y en puntos específicos de la ciudad de México: el WTC, una Prisión y un Museo.

Este proyecto se realizo con el apoyo del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA – FONCA), el Centro Nacional de las Artes y el Centro Multimedia por medio del Programa de Apoyos a la Produccion e Investigacion en Arte y Medios, presentado como parte de la muestra internacional (in)comunidades del Festival de Artes Electronicas y Video TRANSITIO_MX 02
